3Pillar Hosts Functional Angle Conference in Timisoara

3Pillar’s Timisoara, Romania office hosted an all-day technical conference on Functional Angle and the Scala programming language on Saturday, November 8th. Scala is an object-oriented language used by companies like Twitter, LinkedIn, and Intel for some of their mission-critical systems.

Morning Session Keynote

The morning session keynote was titled Scala: Object-Oriented Meets Functional, and was delivered by Iulian Dragos. Iulian has been working on Scala since 2004. He currently works for Typesafe, a start-up that was co-founded by Scala’s creator, Martin Odersky. You can view the Slideshare of Iulian’s keynote via the embed below.

Presentation on Practical Functional Programming

3Pillar’s Bogdan Hodorog followed with a presentation on practical functional programming. Bogdan Hodorog is a Software Engineer who is passionate about building, trying, and playing with software…of all sorts. He currently specializes in Python but is interested in programming languages ad operating systems of all kinds.

Afternoon Workshops

The presentations were followed by workshop sessions in the afternoon. Iulian Dragos and 3Pillar’s Gabriel Lazar presented a workshop on Advanced Scala. 3Pillar’s Cornel Stefanache, pictured below, led a workshop on AngularJS, a JavaScript framework for building web applications. Károly Szántó, also of 3Pillar, led a workshop on 3D Simulation in JMonkey Engine, a 3D game engine for Java developers.
