Fortune Magazine recently published an article written by 3Pillar CEO David DeWolf on “How to effectively network (even if you dread it).” David gives his answer to the question: “What’s the best way to network?,” which was posed by Fortune’s Leadership Insider network to numerous influential business leaders.
In the article, David discusses some of the difficulties he has as an introvert has faced networking and how he has adjusted his approach at events. After leaving many events without forging valuable connections, David developed a way to network that matched his personality.”Instead of relying on my ability to network ‘in the moment,’ I have found a way to build meaningful relationships by being a bit unconventional,” he writes.
David gives three different ways to go about networking, all of which avoid the necessity to “work the room,” which many people find challenging. He also gives personal anecdotes for each of the tips and notes how these moves can yield better results than cold introductions throughout a room.
